Julich told Cyclingnews at the CSC Italian training camp earlier this year that he is aiming to be in peak condition for May. He has a specific aim in mind. “I would like to be as good as I can at the beginning of the Giro, because I’d like to take a little bit of the pressure off Ivan [Basso] and go for the leader’s jersey myself,” he says. “I think the team time trial and the 52 kilometre time trial will help with that goal. It would be great to have the jersey within the team, without Ivan having to have it on his shoulders for the whole three weeks. Unless things really change, then, in those last few days when the race really gets tough, I won’t be able to go up those sort of mountains [with the best]. So then Ivan takes over and we’re all happy.”

Team CSC has posted a new video interview with Bobby. He talks about his expectations for the 2006 season and his career. He said that his focus will be on the Giro and Tour this year to help Ivan Basso, and that he would like to win the U.S. National Championship which will be over Labor Day weekend this year in Greenville, South Carolina.
Bicycling Magazine’s James Startt has written a nice Paris-Nice preview: Here Comes The Sun.
Julich will be back, after finishing a solid third in the Tour of California last week, but it is uncertain how hungry he is to defend his title. “I have different objectives this year compared to last” he told Bicycling.com “My career is winding down and there are other things I would like to accomplish before I finally call it quits. Paris-Nice is a beautiful race and I am very proud to have won it last year, but it is not my main objective this season. I will be very honored to do the race with #1 on my back, but I don’t think that I have the same form as last year.”

The fun in the California sun is over and Bobby is headed back to France to defend his title at Paris-Nice. Team CSC has won the race two years in a row, and they will be bringing another strong lineup.
